Pura Beji Sangsit

It’s very interesting temple to visit on our tour package called North Bali Tour.

In the village of Sangsit is Pura Beji, a subak temple; that is belongs to and is cared for by a rice irrigation association. Located about 200 yards down a small road heading toward the sea from the center of Sangsit, it was built in the 15th century on the site of a well. The temple is famous for its baroque architecture and virtuoso relief carvings. With its courtyards of clipped grass and old frangipani tress, it is a tranquil and refreshing place. The grand gate separating the forecourt from the inner courtyard spreads almost the entire length of the wall and is wonderfully carved on both the inner and outer sides. The principal shrines have staircases and turrets, and one gets the feeling here that worship has something to do with the sheer pleasure of building things. Then forward to Pura Meduwe Karang for 15 drive from Pura Beji.

Meduwe Karang Temple

Meduwe Karang Temple is very fantastic temple of Bali North Tour, the northern most town in Bali, one begins to see the outrageously carved temples typical of the north, and the Pura Maduwe Karang, the village temple, is a prime example. The temple is associated with crops, such as corn and coffee, grown on dry, unirrigated land. If one approaches the center of Kubutambahan from the east, the temple wall is on the right, facing a side street. Lining the front are three rows of larger-than-life statues, characters from the Indian epic Ramayana. There is a forecourt with a long pavilion on one side and then a grand inner courtyard with a massive complex of shrines, where the epic sculpture continues in both statuary and carved reliefs. Children here will recite in unison, in English, full paragraphs of legend about the carving.

Ponjok Batu Temple

This Temple is impressive of North Bali Tour with high historical value are often found on the island of Bali, Pura Ponjok Batu is one of them. There is no real record of the time of establisment of the Ponjok Batu Temple building. Its just that, the existence of this temple has an important role in the event of the coming Reverend Siwa Sidanta Danghyang Nirartha in the 15th century AD.

Ponjok Batu Temple means tanjung batu.  The naming is pinned on this temple because of its location in the peninsula area and looks jutting into the sea.  The existence of this temple is also quite mysterious.  Lontar Dwijendra Tattawa is one of the few historical evidences that tells about the existence of Ponjok Batu Temple. In the lontar, the story of the arrival of Reverend Shiva Sidanta is told, namely Danghyang Nirartha during the reign of Dalem Waturenggong.  He made a spiritual journey to various temples, beginning with Pulaki Temple.  He also spent his time visiting the Ponjok Batu Temple and meditating there. In his arrival at Ponjok Batu Buleleng Temple, Danghyang Nirartha was told to help the boat and boat crew from Lombok.  In the story, it was told that the boat crew saw a glowing rock in the middle of the sea.  When trying to approach him, the boat suddenly suffered damage and could not continue the journey. Furthermore, Danghyang Nirartha also helped the boat crew so they could continue their journey back to Lombok Island.  He also took part in departing with the group to Lombok.  That said, the spiritual value of the Ponjok Batu Temple location continues to increase, as evidenced by the continuous light emanating from this place.

Miracle at Pura Ponjok Batu

It is said that one day, sometime in the 16th century, the Javanese priest Danghyang Nirartha stopped here to sit on the rocks, admire the sea and compose a bit of poetry when suddenly he saw a prahuapproaching with a broken mast. The boat landed on the beach, and he saw that the seven crew members were starved, parched, seasick, and close to death. Danghyang Nirartha revived the crew with his holy magic, and when they were well enough to speak again, they explained that theu were sasak sailors from Lombok. A storm had broken their mast, and they had been adrift in the Lombok strait for over a month and had lost all hope of survival. The priest bid them to drink from a spring that suddenly appeared in the rock, and the next day he guided them safely back to Lombok, even though they had no mast and sail. Approaching the north by the east coast road, one skirts the desolate flanks of Mount Agung through country still ravaged from the volcano’s eruption in 1963, but the beauty of the sea on the right is of some solace.
