3. Puri Saren Ubud
Then enter to the Ubud Palace of Puri Saren and spend your time at Ubud center. One of the most respected dance groups in Bali perform several nights a week in the outer courtyard of the principal palace, at the northeast corner of tej central crossroad. Their backdrop is a grand gate, kori agung, built bu Ubud’s most famous artists, I Gusti Nyoman Lempad. It separates the outer courtyard from the inner sanctum of the palace where the current ruling Cokorda lives. The Puri Saren was demolished by the great eartquake of 1917, so the maze of courtyards, pavilion, and elaborate gates extending far behind the Kori Agung were mostly built soon thereafter.
Merajan Agung. The towering gate above a steep flight of steps immediately north of main palace is one of the finest of its kind, with a striking pyramid of Boma faces rising above its door. This is the main entrance to the Merajan Agung, the private palace temple of the Royal Family within which are housed the palace’s most revered heirlooms. This palace is included on our bali nature holiday package.
4. Tanah Lot Temple
Drive to the south west pass the villages and finally arrive at Tanah Lot Sea Temple, stand on hard rock with the Indian Ocean and take a chance to enjoy the marvelous sunset.
According to legend, the temple Pura Pakendungan, better known now as Pura Tanah Lot, was founded by the 16th-century priest Danghyang Nirartha out of sheer adoration for the natural beauty of the landcape here. It’s not hard to understand why; the power of the and the abrupt drama of the coastline here are awe inspiring. The little temple sits a top an outcrop of rock in the surf, guarded by sea snakes. Besides Pura Tanah Lot there are several other temples nearby arrayed along the coast:
Pura Enjung Galuh, Pura Batu Bolong, Pura Enjung Mejaan, and Pura Beji, all of them presently in a state of disrepair, certainly due to the violence of the sea and wind which erodes the coastline constantly. The most picturesque of these is Pura Batu Bolong ( meaning “the temple on the rock with a hole in it” ): a wall of rock juts arch is carved out by the sea.
